WELCOME TO ANOTHER ISSUE OF 'EXTRAORDINARY WOMEN' WHERE WE BRING YOU CONVERSATIONS WITH EXTRAORDINARY WOMEN AND DELVE INTO PHENOMENAL CAREERS, PERSONAL STYLE, MOMENTS AND EVENTS THAT SHAPE THEIR LIVES, PASSIONS AND SUCCESSES, CHALLENGES AND LESSONS THEY'VE LEARNT.
FOR OUR LATEST ISSUE WE CHAT WITH PHOTOGRAPHER, VIDEOGRAPHER & STORYTELLER MADELEINE GILL, WE HOPE YOU ENJOY OUR CONVERSATION AS MUCH AS WE DID.
Just like any true storyteller, Madeleine crafts her visual outcomes around listening, engaging and interacting with clients. This is where her passions lie - in connecting with people behind businesses and brands, to create beautiful imagery that resonates in a bold, eye-catching and innovative way.
After graduating with a Bachelor in Communication Design at RMIT, Madeleine applied her knowledge and skills into the early years of social and digital marketing. It was within the digital space that she was given the opportunity to articulate and implement creative strategies that were engaging to the viewer, evoked an emotion and elicited a positive reaction.
For the last 7 years Madi has been working within the creative industry assuming roles with different companies and agencies, and is now excited to be running her own business.
MG (MADELEINE GILL) : An absolute pleasure!
LM: Firstly, we'd love to know what's in your Lanamara Lila crossbody bag at the moment?
MG: My few daily essentials: iPhone, car keys, hand cream and lip balm, I absolutely loved how lightweight and easy it was to wear on the go travelling overseas.
LM: You've just returned from a whirlwind trip through Europe, tell us what prompted the journey and where you went?
MG: Spontaneity and divine timing was what prompted this trip! I met up with my friend, Jane, in Germany (where we both attended a friend’s wedding) and we visited some of the most incredible country towns and cities across France, Spain and Portugal.
LM: What are your top places and spaces to visit for fellow travellers?
MG: In France, the areas surrounding Morlaix were incredible with picturesque nature tracks, lust greenery and seaside views. In Spain, I would highly recommend Seville just for the opportunity to experience traditional flamenco dancing on the streets. In Portugal, Porto was a highlight for its architecture and friendly people.
LM: You recently took some gorgeous imagery for us in Europe, what was your favourite place to photograph?
MG: That’s a tricky one… probably Seville because it’s not everyday that you get to take photos of beautiful palaces and flamenco dancers!
LM: You're such a creative person, I just loved the photographic collages you did for a jewellery client recently.
MG: Thank you so much! I love being able to work on collage work because it relies on a type of gut feeling or instinct to know where each element belongs in the overall artwork.
LM: As a photographer and videographer it must be difficult to express your own creativity when always following a client brief, how do you navigate this?
MG: Collaboration is a huge part of my creative process. I love being able to hear what my client’s initial ideas are and work with them to bring this to life. By putting myself in a collaborative mindset, I can be creatively fulfilled.
LM: What's been your biggest challenge in growing your brand?
A - Constantly putting yourself and your work out there can be overwhelming. But having a support network of friends and even clients gives me the encouragement to keep going.
LM: What is your proudest moment in business?
A - About 5 years ago I ended up backstage at a Paolo Sebastian show, photographing and filming models wearing the most incredible gowns. I remember walking back to my hotel room after that show and feeling so proud that I had taken the initiative to create that opportunity for myself. It was magical.
LM: And, finally what does the future look like for Madeleine Gill Creative?
MG: In the near future, I’m shooting some client work that will be used for a cookbook and I’m also looking forward to filming a wedding at the end of the year. Hopefully lots more videography and photography shoots. Whatever the future looks like for me, it’s bound to be bright, wild and wonderful!
