Lucy Macgill's fashion journey started at the tender of 18, she has gone on to work in every facet of the industry. She chats with us about discovering her love of styling and designing, and also her passion for making other women feel beautiful. She also opens up about her identical twin sons and her darkest time when one of her sons became ill, how she rebuilt and is now living a life of joy and abundance. 

LANAMARA (LM): Lucy, welcome! It's so lovely to chat with you and thank you for being our Mother's Day 'Extraordinary Woman'. I've had a total girl crush on you for years now so I'm excited to be sharing your story with our community. You live such a full life and have achieved so much, can you give us a quick background?

Lucy Macgill (LMac): Yes I have definitely packed a lot into this life. My fashion journey started at a tender age of 18…. & still evolves today. Owning various retail stores, fashion labels, running corporate chains in senior management roles… evolved to my greatest passion designing and styling. I love to make women feel incredibly beautiful, it’s a gift I have to share through my designs and styling sessions. Living a dual life between Aspen & Australia allows for plenty of inspiration along this journey of life…. my proudest achievements are my identical twin 25 year old sons and loving husband.

LM: You have just taken some stunning shots for us styling our Precious Charm Necklace, what do you love about it and how does it make you feel when you wear it?

LMac: There is this rawness but total elegance to it. I always LOVE something that gives you that little edge in an outfit. This piece makes me feel that. Colour is perfect - I am obsessed with colour.

LM: You're a mum of twin boys, well actually they're now young adults, with Mother's Day just around the corner tell us about being a mum to boys? What have they taught you?

LMac: They have taught me everything. I have evolved into the woman I am today because of them. They are cool strong and grounded, to need their energy around me. I love gentle men… & they both are such gentle yet strong men. I am so in awe of them both.

LM: Life is always full of ups and downs, but what's been your most challenging time, personally or professionally?

LMac: One of my sons got sick. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour. This was my most dark and challenging time. Chemo for a year. This why I chose to donate & work closely with star light foundation. Over this year I took my eye off my business and it failed. I will take a failure in my business any day to have the win of keeping my son. He is healthy happy and that chapter is way behind us now. It took me years to rebuild myself, my business but I am now in a huge growth stage in my business and those lessons taught me a great deal.

LM: You have had such a varied career in fashion, and worked in many different areas of the industry including a hugely successful fashion agency and you've had your own gorgeous brand, Angel Wings, for many years. What have you enjoyed the most?

LMac: Being a creative on one hand and a business person on the other I have evolved according to instinct, the market & made it all fit in with my lifestyle… I’m just trying to enjoy the journey, trust in my ability & make women feel beautiful along the way… they deserve it.

 

LM: You have always had such an incredible personal style, its very elevated bohemian but always chic, very Lanamara actually. Where do you get your inspiration and what is your feeling about being true to this authentic style, especially as we age?

LMac: It really is just within me after all these years. I have dressed thousands and thousands of women over the years. My brain just thinks in outfits hahaha…. I think we are in a great time in life where you can make your own rules. I think it’s defiantly about quality not quantity. If you have key basics you can add flavour around this. 

 

LM: You have a really busy lifestyle and have always been a global nomad travelling for work, and now jetsetting between the US and Australia since marrying your gorgeous American husband Joe, how do you manage your selfcare and energy?

LMac: I am quite a deeply spiritual soul & have learnt to self care. I really flogged myself hard bring up two boys solo… & now my life is very committed to disciplined yoga practice & organic more plant based diet. Sometimes the old going to hard and fast Lucy pops up and I have to gently bring her back into balance… I learnt that food is medicine so am very focused on what goes in my mouth. Living in aspen there is a great focus on the outdoors so I love this lifestyle.

LM: And finally, what does the future in fashion look like for Lucy Macgill & Angel Wings?

LMac: Living a dual balanced happy life between the AU & ASP… & evolving my brand globally.
