MARIKA'S GUIDE TO JAIPUR

MARIKA'S GUIDE TO JAIPUR

I decided the time was right to finally to meet our vendors and artisans in person and take the opportunity to gather inspiration for next summer's collection, so I jumped on a plane to Delhi and took a car trip to Jaipur, the home of our incredible makers.

Jaipur is the hub of the jewellery and textile industries and I revelled in textile heaven, markets full of stones, and the local cafe scene. It was so great to meet up with Shanon, my sourcing agent who has also become a dear friend.

Shanon is American but has lived in India for over 20 years and speaks Hindi, her and her partner looked after me for the entire week, taking me to amazing bars and cafes, iconic historic places including Amber Fort (this is a must!), I did a couple of Pilates classes and finally got to meet and connect with all my makers, which was such a highlight for me.

Our artisan partners value small batch production and immaculate attention to detail just like we do so it was such a joyful experience to watch them working and discuss our samples they were working on. I spent hours pouring over amazing semi precious stones for next summer and have come away bursting with creativity. I've put together a bite-sized Jaipur travel travel guide for you.

Jaipur:

How to get there:

I took a 12 hour direct flight from Melbourne to Delhi, then took a private car which I booked through Cab Bazar (not expensive) to Jaipur approx. 5 hours. You can just get a domestic flight from Delhi to Jaipur also.

Where to stay:

I wanted to stay somewhere that felt boutique but fit my budget so stayed at the Liv Hotel. It was around 35 degrees most days so loved the roof top pool to cool off and downstairs cafe had the best coffee. I couldn't have been happier and they even sent me WhatsApp messages during the week checking in on me, which is actually really nice when you're travelling alone.

The Johri Jaipur is stunning and has a vegetarian restaurant that comes highly recommended, but is on the pricey side, more challenging to get to and can be noisy.

L: Dear friends Shanon & Nasir | R: Bar Palladio

L: Marika wandering alley ways and door ways | R: Another incredible doorway

L: Meeting our makers | R: Creating our Precious Charm Necklace

Where to eat:

We loved checking out the Baradari Restaurant in the City Palace: a sleek, modern space in the midst of an ancient, traditional setting.

The very instagrammable Bar Palladio was delicious the interiors are beautiful and the rooms, while minimal, have amazing paint jobs!

For a taste of Italy and a break from Indian food, Napoli had one of the best margarita pizzas I've ever had.

L: Block printing workshop at Creatis | R: Indigo dying at Anokhi Museum

L: Shopping at The Palace Atelier | R: Table decor at the gorgeous The PDKF Store in the City Palace

L: Palace of Mirrors within Amber Fort | R: Incredible hand painting at Amber Fort

What to do:

Shop! The markets, with all their gem and textile purveyors, could keep you busy for days. Discover stunning artisanal products from The Palace Atelier and the bright and cheerful The Princess Diya Kumari Foundation (PDFK) Store

Explore the incredible historic sights of the Amber Fort and Palace of Mirrors within, Jaegar Fort & Hava Mahal.

Learn all about the amazing history of block printing and take a workshop, we went to Creatis.
I hope you enjoyed this snapshot of the beautiful Jaipur, with love Marika xx
